He litigates against the State in defense of rights infringed by it. His first case, in 1970, in a lawsuit against the Municipality of Quito, resulted in the Fiscal Court of the Republic nullifying its claim to collect a fee for property subdivision.

He has repeatedly defended intellectual property rights against third-party violations and state actions. He co-authored laws that enshrined intellectual property rights and procedural norms, defending citizens' rights. He has successfully designed several investment arbitration strategies, based on Ecuadorian and international law, contrary to the views of foreign lawyers unfamiliar with Ecuador's legal system.

He has confronted corrupt judges and litigants who granted undue compensation for entirely legal actions. He has resorted to the Inter-American human rights system to seek the restoration of the rule of law and the defense of human rights violated by the Ecuadorian state.

He acted before the Andean Community Court to consolidate the supremacy of community and integration law over domestic legal systems. He served as Director of Legal Affairs for the Presidency of the Republic during the constitutional government of President León Febres Cordero. His integrity and accuracy were recognized when he served as an Ad Hoc Judge and Acting Judge of the Superior Court of Quito and the Administrative Litigation Court based in Quito.

He has efficiently and clearly guided the application of the law in various arbitration cases involving complex disputes, instructing the parties on this alternative means of conflict resolution.

As a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, the Central University of Ecuador, the University of Azuay, the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil, and the Andean University Simón Bolívar, he made efforts to guide the study of various branches of law through the discussion of jurisprudence. Today, he continues to advocate for the rule of law. He holds a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador and a Master of Comparative Jurisprudence from New York University.
